My name is Ciriac Alvarez; I am a proud Mexican immigrant who uses social media and writing as a tool to advocate for my communities. I was born in Cuernavaca, Morelos in Mexico and have lived in the United States for the past 17 years. I am an undocumented immigrant, but above that I am American.
This past May I was able to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah, double majoring in Political Science with an honors degree in Sociology. Despite obstacles that have come from my immigration status, today I stand and reaffirm the belief that the sacrifices my parents have made are worthwhile.
With DACA I was able to pay my way through and graduate from college, buy my first car, and now work a full-time job. DACA may be ending, but my dreams continue.
As an immigrant rights activist, writer, poet, and scholar I hope to pursue a career in public policy or law to bridge the disparities in the communities I am a part of.
