I was a kid who faced an adulthood without a Social Security number and no money for a college education. No permanent roof over my head—uncertain future. These are my lowest moments that I wish towards nobody. It’s the reality of an American with no papers. Being a Dreamer taught me not only to dream but to work hard to achieve my goals.
Today, DACA has enabled me to use my hard-earned degree to work for a non-profit and give back to the community. I dream of the time when we see people beyond their immigration status. That being an American is more than your proof of citizenship. That the meaning of patriotism is defined by your embracement of the tired, the poor, and the huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
